Fremiet was a leading sculptor of the Animalier school, although he also produced many works depicting the human figure. Some of his more famous compositions include both animals and humans, such as this sculpture. He produced numerous commissions for Napoleon III as well as museums and civic spaces around the world.
Condition: excellent original casting, appropriately signed on base and including Barbedienne foundry mark.
