Roux (1813-1886) was a French-trained ébéniste [cabinetmaker] who opened a shop in New York in 1836, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after furniture makers in the city by the 1850s. Most of his work is attributed; it is extremely rare to find a piece with his original label.
