Pair of Doré Bronze Guéridons
Pair of Guéridons on figural tripod legs, having paw feet and surmounted by feline heads. Doré bronze with rouge marble tops, French, c. 19th century.
These guéridons are based on the designs of Ancient Greek and Roman bronze temple furniture, many examples of which were unearthed during the archaeological excavations of the 18th and 19th centuries. They show up in Neoclassical painting as well as in furniture designs, such as these examples.
