Charles H.-J. Cordier

This exceptional pair of Flambeaux is comprised of pairs of African figures standing on plinths holding up large floral compositions of doré bronze and hand-painted porcelain flowers.
Cordier was an influential ethnographic sculptor who travelled to Africa in the 1850s. He used his sculpture to create studio pieces for the Paris Salons and well as highly dynamic decorative art objects such as these flambeaux. His work is in numerous public buildings and museums.
