Chinese Peachbloom Brush Washer
A rare, early Qing-Dynasty porcelain brush washer with "Peachbloom" exterior glaze and pale celadon interior glaze from the Jingdezhen kilns. Kangxi mark in underglaze blue and of the period. Chinese, c. late 17th or early 18th century. Condition: fully intact, but with three hairlines, c.f. similar piece in similar condition in the British Museum, London. During the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (ruled 1661-1722), there was a renewed interest in developing new techniques in the production and glazing of ceramics. This piece is an example of the fine Chinese Imperial porcelain produced during this period.
