Jean Beauduin
French/Belgian, 1851-1916
Dès l'Aube [At Dawn]
Oil on canvas

Beauduin studied art in Antwerp before moving to Paris, where he became quite successful, exhibiting in the Salon and doing illustration for major Parisian publications of the time. He also travelled to America, where his work was shown at high-end galleries in New York and Boston. Beauduin is noted for his work with landscapes and pastoral scenes depicting peasant maidens, such as this. His paintings demonstrate his masterful use of light, and many of his subjects are depicted at dawn or twilight.
